Long live the LEGO queen! The Queen of England recently celebrated her 90th birthday, and the long-reigning monarch has been enjoying months of festivities honoring the occasion. LEGOLAND Windsor celebrated the Queen in LEGO style, recreating a giant street party complete with the royal family replicated in miniature — all made entirely from LEGO bricks. The street party took 650 hours for the LEGOLAND team to build and included more than 30,000 bricks (and that’s not even counting the additional 35,000 bricks and untold hours to build the replica of Buckingham Palace). Members of the royal family including Prince George and Princess Charlotte as well as the royal dogs (corgis, the Queen’s favorite) were as nattily dressed as one could be in LEGO attire, and several of the women in the party wore amazingly detailed fascinator hats that were crafted by the Queen’s milliner. The Queen’s crown was fitted with 48 real diamonds, which goes to show that apparently in England, no expense is spared when celebrating royalty, even in minifigure form. 600 LEGO party guests fêted the Queen in style with mini champagne bottles at picnic tables at the street party, which featured Union Jack flags (also made out of LEGO) and bunting for decoration. We’ve never been so jealous of a LEGO celebration before, but if you’re experiencing FOMO, book a flight across the pond: the party will be on view until November at LEGOLAND Windsor.
