What if this Halloween you could keep it green, save money and have a lot of fun; all at the same time? Sounds great right? Well, National Costume Swap Day allows you this opportunity. National Costume Swap Day officially falls on Saturday, October 8, but events will be happening throughout the month. This event is jointly sponsored by three partners, Green Halloween, Swap.com and Kiwi Magazine. A costume swap is an event where people come together to swap out previous year’s Halloween costumes, in exchange for new-to-you costumes from another green family. The swap can be as simple as getting together with a few neighbors or as large as a citywide event. No matter the size of your event, a costume swap is the perfect way to save on the resources it takes to create new costumes, such as excess packaging, materials and shipping emissions. Plus, a green costume swap will save you a ton of cash and allows you to have fun celebrating the lead-up to Halloween too!
It’s very easy to set up and host a Halloween Costume Swap in your own community, and there are zero costs to register a swap. Registering a Costume Swap is not only an excellent way to let your local community know about this green Halloween activity, but it’s also is the perfect way to encourage local and national media, to support greener Halloween events in their news stories. Head to Costume Swap Day to find local swaps you can attend or even register your own event. New swaps can be registered every single day right up to Halloween. To learn more, you can also participate in the National Costume Swap Day Twitter party on Tuesday, September 27, 9 p.m. EST #CostumeSwap or like Costume Swap Day on Facebook.
