Skateboards are wooden. Pencils are wooden. Why not mash ’em together? That’s exactly what NYC-based artist Matthew Barney did for the latest iteration of his Drawing Restraint series. I can see this quickly becoming a consumer product marketed to kids with a tip made of sidewalk chalk rather than Barney’s chuck of graphite. My skateboarding son would love that. The photographs herein are of skateboarding legend Lance Mountain taking Barney’s skate deck for a spin, depicting “a marriage of the conceptual mind of a fine artist and the grace and speed of a skateboard icon.” Read more about this project, which intends to “bring awareness to the importance of community and art” over at Juxtapoz.
