In a world obsessed with over-scheduling kids every second and pushing academics over play, it’s very refreshing to hear that one school knows when to say enough is enough and simply allow kids to relax. According to Treehugger, the Calvary Christian School in Georgia has canceled classes for the day because it’s just way too nice to stay inside. Principal Len McWilliams, who told the Ledger-Enquirer that he’s been seeking a positive reason to close down his school for a day, notes, “In the late 1980s, I was calling school off one winter day because of the terrible weather. The thought occurred to me that it would be great to call school off some day because it was too beautiful a day to go to school.” It may well be too beautiful for school today too as forecasters predict a wonderful day in the school’s region with a high of 83 ? and sunny skies. A seasonally uncommon, yet ideal day to skip school – what a great idea! Kids need plenty of time to just be kids, experience free play and enjoy the outdoors. We hope other schools follow suit and call off school for a positive reason every once in a while!
