Museums, zoos, and learning centers can cost quite a bit for admission these days, making a casual excursion out of the question for families on a budget (ie: almost every family we know!). September 26th is your lucky day because it’s Museum Day Live!, an annual event sponsored by Smithsonian Magazine that offers free admission to more than 1,200 participating museums¬†including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Children’s Museum of Manhattan, and the Craft and Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles. Just sign up and print out a ticket for free admission for two people — if you have multiple children, you can always enlist a grandparent, babysitter, or friend to sign up and come along too! With venues all over the country, there’s never been a more perfect time for a road trip to a new museum or learning center or a better excuse for finally visiting one in your hometown that you may have missed. Inspired by the Smithsonian Museums, which are free every single day, Museum Day Live! was created to offer kids and their grown-ups the opportunity to keep learning and exploring.
