SpeeZees makes organic tees for kids that give back a little bit more than most organic tee companies in order to help preserve the environment. Before SpeeZees came about, the owners' 4-year old daughter came up with the idea of shirts that might help save and protect threatened and endangered animals around the globe. Her parents liked the idea and the rest is t-shirt history. Keep reading to learn more about this environmental t-shirt company.
Every SpeeZees t-shirt is made with care from 100% Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified organic cotton – this is premium quality single jersey with fine rib necklines ?fairly traded through Flo-Cert. All shirts are printed with safe eco-friendly inks in Vancouver, Canada. According to SpeeZees, the shirts are made fairly in India. The hang tags included with the shirts are made from wildflower seeded recycled paper that can be planted by your child.
SpeeZees offers plenty of excellent information about why organic clothing is not only healthier for your child, but also for the planet. From conventional cotton’s drain on water resources to harmful chemical pesticides and insecticides to habitat destruction, there are plenty of reasons to go organic. You can learn more in SpeeZees guide Why Organic Cotton?
Quality Organic Tees
SpeeZees t-shirts are made to last so that they can be passed down to one little species lover after another. To care for your shirts, simply wash in cool or warm temperature water and eco-friendly detergent. Don’t bleach and tumble dry on low or even better, hang your shirt up to dry.
SpeeZees shirt designs are centered around endangered species and created by artists, each of whom receives one dollar per shirt sold. Each shirt’s design features the Latin genus and species of an animal and provides a reliable estimation via IUCN about how many of these endangered animals remain in existence. The company has intentionally kept the color of the animal offspring white to subtly suggest that their future continuation as a species may be in question.
$1 For One
SpeeZees is all about bringing attention to species people love, one t-shirt at a time. With this in mind, SpeeZees’ has a $1 for One campaign, designed to help “Honor organizations that are working tirelessly to bring about substantive awareness of the species extinction crisis taking place and change to get things shifting.” Through this program, $1 from every SpeeZees tee sold goes directly to a dedicated organization working to restore and preserve each SpeeZees t-shirt’s species. The following organizations are being supported through SpeeZees’ $1 for One campaign:
- Northern Spotted Owl (The Wilderness Committee)
- Asian Elephant (The Asian Elephant Foundation)
- Polar Bear (Polar Bears International)
- Lehmann’s Poison Frog (Amphibian Specialist Group)
- Cape Mountain Zebra (Cape Mountain Zebra Conservation)
- Western Bumble Bee (The Xerces Society)
- Mountain Gorilla (International Gorilla Conservation Programme)
- Greater Bamboo Lemur (Association Mitsinjo)
- Indochinese Tiger (Panthera)
- Amsterdam Albatross (Birdlife International)
