Interactive 500-square-foot ‘micro loft’ shows off small living solutions in Brooklyn

Entertaining 20+ guests in a tiny New York apartment might sound like a tall order, but <a href="https://www.ajmadison.com/">AJ Madison</a> and <a href="http://resourcefurniture.com/">Resource Furniture</a> showed that it could be pulled off in style this past weekend at the 2016 <a href="http://inhabitat.com/nyc/index.php?s=bklyndesigns">BKLYN DESIGNS</a> showcase in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The BK-based appliance dealer teamed up with the urban furnishing solutions company and the designers at <a href="http://aphrochic.com/">AphroChic</a> to present an interactive, 406-square-foot micro loft on the floor of the Brooklyn Expo Center in order to showcase small living solutions to attendees. The petite pop-up featured an all-in-one space that transitioned seamlessly between living room, bedroom, kitchen and dining room thanks to <a href="http://resourcefurniture.com/">Resource Furniture's </a>smart transforming pieces .

Designed by husband-and-wife team Jeanine Hays and Bryan Mason of <a href="http://aphrochic.com/">AphroChic</a>, the micro loft demonstrated how a blank 400-square-foot space could be delineated and furnished to create functional spaces for cooking, sleeping, lounging, working and entertaining.

The 14'x29' micro loft centered around Resource Furniture's expandable <a href="http://resourcefurniture.com/product/goliath/">Goliath table</a>, which can seat up to 10 when opened up to its full length, and then closed back down to a slim-profile desk or console table.

“We were excited to work with the BKLYN DESIGNS team and the designers from AphroChic, because at AJ Madison, we are committed to being an active partner in the design process," said Philippe Meyersohn, Director of Brand Marketing at AJ Madison. "This event is the perfect moment to showcase our solution-focused approach, engage with the local community and announce our new Kitchen Design Group. The Kitchen Design Group is a team of specialists that can assist the design trade with any projects from small spaces to large.”

A compact but high-end kitchen flanked one side of the pop-up, kitted out with a cooktop, wall oven, microwave drawer, dishwasher, range hood and refrigerator, all by Bosch.

"There have been a lot of advances in sustainable technology, but if you still have a massive house, as many people in the United States do, then all of that energy-efficiency is negated," said Lisa Blecker of <a href="http://resourcefurniture.com/">Resource Furniture</a>. "So we wanted to talk about that here. This is about 400-square-feet, and you can have a full, complete kitchen, you can have a dinner party with 20 people in this space, and a bedroom and a living room with a 12-ft sofa without sacrificing anything at all. You've got every luxury that you could possibly want in 400 square feet."

Resource's 12-foot <a href="http://resourcefurniture.com/product/tango/">Tango sectional sofa</a> anchored the other end of the space.

AphroChic selected the palette of neutral but exciting colors and textures that filled the micro loft.

The versatile space was used to host a number of events throughout the weekend, ranging from cooking demonstrations to talks to a private reception for more than 20 people.
