It’s officially our favorite bittersweet holiday, Labor Day Weekend, the last weekend of summer. We recommend finding anyway you can to enjoy this blissfully pleasant weather we are having, while passing the time with family and friends. If however you are looking for a little more structure, there’s a blinding variety of events to partake in LA but here are our top picks for eco-friendly activities to partake in over the long weekend. Labor Day Epic
Join Big Parade LA founder Dan Koeppel and his devoted tribe of followers for an urban trek that will cover 35 stairways and ten miles from downtown LA to Hollywood. Koeppel’s tours give walkers a glimpse of this city from a different perspective and can be at times life-changing.
LA County Fair
Among the festivities, the fair will feature a “Going Green” booth including themed interactive exhibits and workshops on rainforests and the habitats in each layer of the forest; how rainforests protect and enrich our environment; interactive exhibits on how to reuse, recycle and renew our resources.
The Taste
This four-day culinary spectacular will serve up 9 events in 3 locations over 4 days. Culinary rock stars, food trucks, and locally-sourced deliciousness. Not to be missed if you can fork up the cash for the tickets.
City of Los Angeles Birthday Celebration
The early morning “Los Pobladores – Walk to Los Angeles” is an annual re-enactment of the nine-mile walk from the San Gabriel Mission to found El Pueblo de Los Angeles at the current Olvera Street. The event starts at Union Station and ends at Olivera Street with a cake-cutting. At Olvera Street, walkers and others will find live music, food and artists booths at El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Site. Happy Birthday, LA!
El Capitan Canyon Concert
Head to the eco-friendly beachside resort for the last concert of the summer. This weekend it’s old school funk and latin jazz. Enjoy good tunes and fabulous BBQ under the big night sky. The concert is complimentary for overnight guests. Tickets available at the door otherwise.
