Last week at a preview event for one of Fisker‘s first showrooms, the LAcarGuy made his move to become the first automotive dealer in the US to offer “Level 2” electric vehicle charging stations for any plug-in or hybrid vehicle — and Inhabitat was invited to join in the festivities! It’s good news for all electric hybrid owners and new Nissan Leaf buyers in the Los Angeles area — now you can plug-in to one of six chargers throughout the city thanks to longtime environmental industry leader and founder of LAcarGuy, Mike Sullivan.
The ClipperCreek Level 2 SAE J-1772 EVSE (for all you techies out there) chargers are compatible with all major automakers’ plug-in and hybrid vehicles built at present and beyond, thanks to a regulation for a universal plug. Six of the chargers will be installed throughout the LA area at LAcarGuy‘s various dealerships, including Toyota Hollywood, Toyota Santa Monica, Fisker Santa Monica, and Lexus Santa Monica.
The announcement was made by Sullivan at the Fisker Santa Monica preview, a part of a special North American road tour for the all-new Fisker Karma – the world’s first luxury hybrid plug-in electric vehicle with zero emissions.
“LAcarGuy is proud to be the first U.S. automotive dealership to offer the only industry-approved electric charging stations on the market,” said Sulivan. “This is yet another step for us to support the community with sustainable options. It’s our commitment to ensuring that our daily driving habits contribute to a healthier planet.”
While it’s hard for a car guy to be green, we’ve got to hand it to Mike Sullivan. After all, we didn’t expect the beginnings of the gridlock city’s electric car infrastructure to take root in the private sector through automotive dealerships.
