8850 Sunset Blvd. on West Hollywood‘s Sunset Strip was the site of popular music venue The Viper Room. Now, it has been reimagined as a mixed-use, sustainable five-star hotel that retains the music venue. However, it will add restaurants, meeting space and wellness-oriented apartments. It is planned to open in 2025.
The 12-story building is designed by Arquitectonica and Silver Creek Development to include 26 market rate units and eight restricted income units. The designers say the new project takes the celebrity-heavy legacy of the old Viper Room location into account by creating a re-designed venue and recording studio on site.
Even better, the new property will be sustainable. Every residence at 8850 Sunset will meet or exceed LEED standards, aiming for LEED Gold. There will be rooftop dining, an outdoor fitness center, rooftop pool and five venues for food and entertainment. It will be West Hollywood’s first five-star boutique hotel. The new development will create widened walkways to become a pedestrian-oriented gathering place. Landscaping will be drought tolerant.
Furthermore, the aim is to create a sustainable mixed-use space that also serves to meet affordable housing needs for the community. Living wage jobs are promised to serve the community and commit to social and economic justice.
It’s a lot to pack into one building, we’ll admit. The cafes, storefronts and the Viper Room entrance will be part of a two-story street-level part of the building. The hotel takes up the next floors up to the fifth level. Permanent residences will sit on top of the building, up to the 10th story. The 10th floor will also feature a restaurant and bar. The rooftop pool and other amenities will have panoramic views of the city.
