After shopping around for a bit, award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio has finally decided on a home in New York City’s Greenwich Village. The star is known for embracing the eco-lifestyle (as evidenced by his love affair with Citi Bikes and previous accommodations at the LEED gold-rated Riverhouse), so it only makes sense that his new pad be green as well. In addition to sustainable materials, the exclusive Sixty-Six East Eleventh Street also boasts health-centric amenities such as vitamin-C infused showers.

Developed by Delos, Sixty-Six East Eleventh Street prides itself on using environmental principles and green building techniques to ensure the health of its residents. Working from the WELL standard model introduced by Delos and the Clinton Global Initiative, the penthouse condos has features that are said to extend and improve the quality of life. Designed with input from Columbia University and the Mayo clinic, the former 1897 dress factory features such extras as kitchen herbariums, vitamin-C infused showers, posture-supportive flooring, purified air and water, and circadian lighting design.

It is yet to be determined which unit or units DiCaprio has acquired, but the mutli-million dollar floorplans range from three bedroom/three and a half baths to a four-level, 42-foot wide mansion. Regardless of which space DiCaprio has decided to call home, his purchase will go towards helping those in need. For each unit sold, Delos promises to build 40 homes in Haiti, totaling 200 philanthropic structures in all.

While these holistic homes are way out of the price range for most people, DiCaprio’s support for eco-conscious and healthy living will hopefully start a trend favoring green building practices. With some states across the country outlawing LEED standards for new projects, it is heartening to hear that there are those in the private sector backing green architecture with their wallets and charisma.
