Luke Lamp Co.’s Center Pendant Rope Lights Give Energy Efficient LEDs an Elegant New Form

When the <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/led-lighting" target="_blank">LED lighting</a> trend first came on the scene, designer Luke Kelly of <a href="http://www.lukelampco.com/" target="_blank">Luke Lamp Co.</a> admits he first hesitated before making the switch away from the classic Edison filament bulb. But after tinkering with LEDs for several months, Kelly developed both a newfound respect for the energy efficient LEDs as well as an elegant new design for the Center Pendant rope lights. Using a laborious 52-step process, Kelly hand makes these hanging lights, each containing a long LED tube embedded seamlessly inside the end of white nylon rope.

Although ICFF is dominated every year by innovative and beautiful lighting designs, Inhabitat zoomed in on Luke Lamp Co.'s Center Pendant LED lamps as one of our favorite finds from the show.

Within each pendant lamp, a 2-foot long 5050SMD LED module is inserted inside a 12-foot long, 18,000 pound rated white double braided nylon rope.

A 15-watt power adapter with a 5-foot cord sticks out from the other end of the rope.

To create the Center Pendant's seamless look, Kelly combined 21 individual components using 17 separate tools, from soldering irons to electric rope cutters.

Though the LED light only uses 7 watts of power, it gives off 575 lumens of bright and warm white light and is capped by a polished brass-plated rope cap with a magnetic end piece.

The Center Pendant can be hung individually as a single statement piece, or clustered together in multiples for an incredible effect.
