McDonough + Partners’ Bosch Siemens Showroom Boasts a 4-Story Living Atrium

The <a href="http://www.bsh-group.com/index.php?showPI&amp;y=2011&amp;pm=125883" target="_blank">Bosch Siemens Hausgeräte (B/S/H/)</a> in Hoofddorp, The Netherlands not only showcases the latest in energy efficient home appliances, but also boasts the latest in sustainable design and architecture. Designed by <a href="http://www.mcdonoughpartners.com/" target="_blank">William McDonough + Partners</a> the Bosch Siemens Hausgeräte is an inspirational office with a 4-story living atrium at its center. On top of the living interior, the building features building integrated photovoltaic panels, a green roof, energy and water efficient strategies, plus <a href="http://www.mbdc.com/detail.aspx?linkid=2&amp;sublink=8" target="_blank">Cradle-to-Cradle</a> design. Open since the end of 2011, visitors can lust after new appliances and check out the giant living wall.

The <a href="http://www.bsh-group.com/index.php?showPI&amp;y=2011&amp;pm=125883" target="_blank">Bosch Siemens Hausgeräte (B/S/H/): The Inspiration House</a>, is the first building designed for <a href="http://www.park2020.com/" target="_blank">Park 20|20</a>, which is the first <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tag/cradle-to-cradle">Cradle to Cradle-inspired</a> full-service development in the Netherlands.

The eco office is home to five of the top brands in household appliances: Bosch, Siemens, Gaggenau, Neff and Constructa.

Designed as a flexible, innovative workplace, B/S/H/ is part showroom and eco office with interior spaces that provide natural daylight, ventilation and quality indoor air to improve the occupant experience.

The 4-story living atrium plays a significant roll by providing fresh air, moisture and a beautiful display of vegetation.

Energy efficient design is seen throughout the building through the use of daylighting sensors, LED lighting and a ground source heating and cooling system.

The building is topped with a serrated skylight roof outfitted with building integrated photovoltaic panels to generate electricity.

A green roof on a portion of the building features a rain water catchment basin that filters and stores grey water for reuse in toilet fixtures.

In addition, a black water system is designed to transform sewage treatment into a nutrient management system, including the capture of nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorous and carbon for reuse.

The facility is open throughout the day and even at night and during the weekends so visitors can tour the facility and see the innovative showrooms.
