The ‘super-fast’ charger can bring an EV up to 80% battery capacity in less than 30 minutes. “I could see that transportation was going electric. We wanted to be ahead of the curve,” George Caraghiaur, senior vice president, sustainability forSimon Property Group Inc. told PluginCars.com. Simon Property Group owns the Fashion Valley mall, where the charger is located.

“Announcing our first NRG eVgo Freedom Station site at Fashion Valley Mall reinforces our commitment to sustainability while also providing shoppers with unparalleled service and convenience.”

“California accounts for one-third of all electric vehicle sales in the US. The NRG eVgo Freedom Station at Fashion Valley gives California drivers freedom to go anywhere they want in the coolest cars on the road and at lower prices than gasoline cars,” added Terry O’Day, Vice President of Business Development for NRG eVgo in California.

It is unsurprising that San Diego was picked to play host to the SAE Combo Plug, as the city is home to some 6,000 plug-in vehicles – including a number of low-speed neighborhood vehicles.
