SmartCharge just unveiled a brilliant LED lightbulb that works even during power outages! The innovative bulb features a built-in battery, so it can be switched on in emergency situations when the grid goes down. Best of all, the bulbs can cut electricity use by up to 90% compared to other lights, which means they could seriously lower your electricity bill.
The secret to SmartCharge’s technology lies in a special “Grid & Switch Sensor” that is built into the bulb. The sensor automatically detects when a grid failure occurs, at which point the bulb can be powered by a built-in battery. The bulb’s battery constantly charges while the power is on, so you’ll never be left in the dark in an emergency situation. The bulbs also have a really long lifespan – they’re rated for up to 40,000 hours (or the equivalent of 25 years). The team is currently raising funds for the design via a Kickstarter page – take a look here for more information.
