It looks like the Brooklyn Navy Yard will soon be “hopping” in more ways than one. Folks working at the complex’s forthcoming Dock 72 technology hub will have a built-in happy hour haunt now that Brooklyn Brewery will also be taking up residence in the former naval shipbuilding facility. The popular Williamsburg beer makers will be working with architecture firm Davis Brody Bond to create spaces for their new headquarters, an expansive ground-floor brewery, and a massive restaurant and beer garden on the rooftop of the historic Building 77.
Mayor de Blasio and the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation announced the new project on Monday. According to the company’s website, the brewery will be opening its new headquarters on the ninth floor, a large brewery on the ground floor and a massive beer garden on the roof, including enough space for corn hole competitions.
Although the brewery’s new spaces are not slated to open until 2018, they will have some great neighbors once the project is open for business. Russ & Daughters, Brooklyn Grange, Brooklyn Roasting Company and Mast Brothers Chocolate have also decided to expand into the renovated navy yard.
