Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 2 is on track to wrap up construction by this spring, and visitors will soon be able to enjoy exciting amenities including a new roller rink. When complete, the newly renovated five-acre pier’s marquee attraction will be available for recreational roller and in-line skating, roller hockey, and roller derby. The pier will also offer all kinds of courts for basketball, bocce ball, shuffleboard and other sports.
The new Pier will boast five full-size basketball courts, two of which will be sheltered under a roof. The site will also be home to six handball courts, three shuffleboard courts and two full-size bocce ball courts. Fitness-minded New Yorkers will also be able to use state-of the art equipment stationed in the workout area.
There will be activities for kids, too, with a half-acre of turf marking space for free play as well as twelve swings of varying sizes for children of all ages. Rounding out the waterfront amenities will be a set of picnic tables, skate rentals, and on-site lockers.
“Since opening in 2010, Brooklyn Bridge Park has become one of New York City’s prime waterfront destinations,” the Parks Department wrote in release. “This Spring, we are opening Pier 2, our newest section of the park. Pier 2 will be a great destination for New Yorkers and we want the entire city to enjoy this amazing public space.”
