We were majorly impressed by the Pine Box Rock Shop’s adaptive reuse from a coffin factory into a neighborhood bar, and now the Bushwick spot has even more earth-friendly news. Going forward, the cozy, wood-clad watering hole has pledged to serve only plant-based, vegan booze! So if you’re jonesing for an Irish Cream even though you gave up dairy, look no further than Pine Box’s mouthwatering and cruelty-free alternatives.

Owners Heather and Jeff Rush have made a commitment to serving only vegan booze – but without skimping on their cocktail list offerings. Instead of the traditional White Russian, the bar serves house-made Irish Cream, which is an infusion of thick soy milk, vanilla vodka, Frangelico and Kahlua. Served over ice, the delicious cocktail tastes just as good, if not better, than its dairy counterpart.

Even regular Bloody Marys  aren’t totally cruelty-free, as Worcestershire sauce contains fermented anchovies. Rather than skipping the ingredient, Pine Box stocks meatless Worcestershire for their array of Bloody Marys and Bloody Marias. The bar also boycotts liquors containing honey, and beers that are processed with casein, a milk derivative.

Aside from a stocked cocktail list of vegan-friendly drinks,  Pine Box also serves meatless snacks from V Spot, including a selection of tasty empanadas. The welcoming Bushwick bar attracts vegans and meat eaters alike, proving that going vegan doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice flavor.
