We’ve all heard the old cat-in-the-tree story before, but it never quite fails to pull on our heartstrings. Poor little Dorothy Gale, named after The Wizard of Oz, somehow got herself stuck in a towering treetop across from Newtown High School in Queens for three whole days. Now ‘there’s no place like home’ for this sweet kitten, who is currently looking to find a permanent place and owner to call her own.

Several Queens animal activists tried nearly everything to coax the one-year-old kitten down from the tree, but even with their tallest ladders and nets, Dorothy still could not be reached. It wasn’t until fire fighters came to the rescue three days later that Dorothy was gallantly saved.

Miney’s Rescue of Love, an animal shelter run by local singer/songwriter Annet Artani out of her Flushing home, has taken in Dorothy for the past two weeks, but would love nothing more than for a loving family to adopt her permanently. According to Artani, Dorothy is as snuggly as can be and is “the sweetest, sweetest little cat.” She has been posting videos of Dorothy regularly on YouTube, hoping to find her a home for the long run.
