Summer is almost here, and that means it’s time for the annual celebration of creativity known as the FIGMENT Festival!  The yearly event invites New Yorkers of all ages to hop on the ferry to Governors Island for two days of arty fun on June 8th and 9th. So pack a picnic, head to the island, and don’t forget to get there in time for the unveiling of this year’s City of Dreams Pavilion – CDR Studio’s Governor’s Cup.

Both kids and adults are welcome to frolic amongst the sculpture gardens, site-specific installations and mini golf course that take over Governors Island for Figment. Two days of activities are planned, including live DJs all day long to get your feet moving, rain or shine. Interactive sculptures join an artist-designed mini golf course and a giant tree house overlooking Manhattan views. Family activities, arts and crafts workshops and musical performances will also be available and if you’re feeling peckish, grab a bite from one of many food vendors.

This year’s City of Dreams Pavilion winner, Governor’s Cup, will greet visitors on the sprawling meadow. CDR made the lace-like pavilion from thousands of discarded plastic cups that they collected from all around the New York City area. The cups were then strung together and upcycled into a glittering, undulating sculptural pavilion that will provide shade to visitors.
