“Holy cow! No, don’t go in the middle,” yelled onlooker Michael Gambale as he shot this video of what looks like a mini tornado at McCarren Park this past Sunday. Park-goers at the popular green space in Williamsburg were stunned to see the little cyclone, which has since lovingly been dubbed the “Hipster Twister,” sweep across a baseball field for about two minutes, whipping up dust and debris. Although it did resemble a tiny twister, the phenomena was most closely identified as a dust devil, or “small, rapidly rotating wind that is made visible by the dust, dirt or debris it picks up,” according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
