We’ve been wanting to see Lamacek‘s new Phelt “clusters” in person ever since we found out about them, and we finally got our chance this weekend at BKLYN Designs. The fun series takes eco-felt made from 100% recycled plastic bottles and turns it into spirally groupings that can be used as wall art, seat cushions, coasters and pretty much whatever else you can think of (Lamacek takes custom orders as well). We got a chance to ask Connie Lam, who founded Lamacek with partner Michael Sedlacek, about PHELT. Read on to see what we learned.

“The PHELT series is born out of functionality and beauty,” explained Connie. “The goal was to create a new texture using a well known material. The PHELT line really is a collaboration between the textile and the user. When people pick up a sample the creative process immediately begins. People create their own designs with PHELT as it can be applied to many applications – seating pads, decorative table accessories, wall art… the user fills in the blank.”

The PHELT series is made right in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and 7″ x 9″ clusters start at $80 each. There are many other different configurations available, and as Connie said, Lamacek can work with you to create the perfect one for your home.

If you’ve fallen in love with PHELT, don’t forget to vote for Lamacek in Inhabitat’s Green Design Awards here. We’ll be announcing the winner today!
