Why settle for enrolling your little one in an ordinary summer camp when you can send them on a nature adventure in the city? The environmentally friendly New Amsterdam School in Manhattan’s East Village neighborhood is offering a unique summer camp for toddlers to experience and explore the great outdoors. Designed for ages 3 to 7, the 9-week garden summer session isn’t your typical recreational day program. Children will be immersed in an East Village community garden where they’ll make memories amidst ponds, treehouses, turtles and a plethora of flora and fauna. With summer fast approaching, planning the perfect summer activities can be a chore for parents looking for much more than camp songs and hot dog parties. New Amsterdam School’s green summer camp provides an extension of their Waldorf approach which effectively prepares children to develop the emotional and social intelligence necessary for life-long learning. Additionally, studies show that children immersed in nature at an early age foster a love for the environment and help them develop the necessary cognitive skills to spur creativity and out-of-the-box critical thinking.
Enroll your little one for the entire 9-week program or attend weekly for $435. Summer session commences June 16 and ends August 15. Children will attend each session Monday through Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., spending most of their time in the garden. Modeled after the New Amsterdam School’s nursery and kindergarten program, children will have the opportunity to learn from one another, be inspired by new friends and partake in the luscious natural environment around them!
