A previously nondescript street corner in Greenpoint, Brooklyn is now a bit brighter thanks to a new mural celebrating the life and words of Nelson Mandela. Emblazoned with one of the late leader's most famous quotes - "It always seems impossible until it's done" - the public artwork was completed last week by Sky High Murals.
The new mural features a photo-realistic painting depicting Mandela‘s warm smile set against a stark, white background. The work was completed by artist Jason Coatney. “You know, it could be a few people, but once I put his smile on there, he just has a beautiful face,” Coatney told NY1. “It’s very humbling. I’ve painted for about 15 years on the sides of buildings, and I don’t know that I’ve ever painted anything that I respected so much.”
The beautiful piece can be viewed at the northeast corner of 13th Street and Wythe Avenue.
