Just over two months ago, we got a sneak peek of Bjarke Ingels Group‘s swanky new condo project at 76 Eleventh Avenue. Now, updated renderings posted by NY YIMBY show a few alterations to the original asymmetrical dual tower design to be located adjacent to the High Line at 17th Street, but it seems like the architects may still be tinkering with the final plans for the site’s design and use. Nonetheless, once completed, the massive $870 million residential project will certainly be one of the most notable projects in the area with both towers soaring over the neighborhood at 28 and 38 floors above the ground.
The initial design of the two large towers called for lower-level space in the building to be reserved for a 150,000-square-foot hotel. Now, according to the Real Deal, it seems as though the project is leaning towards offering office space rather than hotel accommodation. As far as the rest of the design, the updated plans are still showing 260 condos on the upper floors of the towers, along with 85,000 square feet of retail space and 100 parking spaces.
Even with the probability of more changes to come, the project will certainly end up making its mark in the neighborhood, for both its size and cost. Located along the popular High Line park between 17th and 18th street, the two towers, standing at 402 and 302 feet high, will loom over the rest of the buildings in the Chelsea area. As for the residential units, plans have not been made public yet, but they are reportedly being priced at less than $4 million.
The project is tentatively slated to be completed some time in 2018.
