We’ve got great news to report – power appears to be back on in many parts of Manhattan, even those that ConEd said would have to wait until tomorrow. People have been tweeting that street lights are back on all around downtown Manhattan and ConEd just left a message with our editor-in-chief, Jill Fehrenbacher, saying that power at her apartment on the Lower East Side has been restored. Not all areas of Manhattan have power back (according to our readers who live there and also to ConEd’s map) and many areas outside of the city are still waiting patiently, but we’re thanking ConEd for their fast action and are hoping they can get others out of the dark soon.

Here are some of the tweets we’ve seen from ConEd so far:

Area restored begins at Canal St,stretches as far north as 14/15th and reaches west to Broadway and east to the East River #ConEdison #Sandy

@siobhang Cooper Square network has been restored. Network: #Canal on south, #Bdway on west, #EastRiver on east and #14th St. on north.

#ConEdison restores over 65,000 customers on the Lower East Side and East Village areas of #Manhattan #Sandy

If your power is back and you want the whole world (or at least a portion of it) to know how happy you are, tweet us @inhabitatnyc with the good news.
