President Barack Obama is coming to Brooklyn, and he’s shutting down the borough’s largest park to use as a landing area for his arrival. Prospect Park will be closed this Friday from 12 pm to 6 pm to make way for Marine One. After touching down at the park, the POTUS will be visiting Brooklyn’s cutting-edge Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH).
If you thought the constant gridlock during a UN summit was an incredible show of government muscle, just imagine what locking down all of Prospect Park will be like. For those curious to see what Marine One’s landing in Brooklyn will look like, Tom Prendergast snapped photos of it on its practice landing runs, which later appeared on the Park Slope Stoop.
President Obama praised the P-TECH school in his latest State of the Union speech for its innovative, six-year associate degree program. Graduates of the program also get the chance to apply for jobs with the school’s partner company, IBM.
