One look at this rainbow-hued home renovation should clue you into the fact that artist Kat O'Sulllivan is clearly not afraid of color. Also known as Katwise, the bold painter renovated the old farmhouse near Woodstock, NY and infused both the interior and exterior with a technicolor glow. Read on for a glimpse into this vibrant home makeover.
O’Sullivan purchased the property, which dates back to 1840, in 2009, and has been renovating it with her partner, Mason Brown. The ongoing renovation project is largely funded by the artist’s hand-crafted upcycled sweater creations.
As with most of her wares, the artist’s philosophy of “artistic upcycling” is unmistakable in the bold, multi-hued palette now covering the home’s formerly white exterior. Now, the long-forgotten home has been brought back to life, clad in a mind-boggling array of bright colors and filled with even more vibrant objects on the interior. The resulting eye-catching project, called Calico, represents the artist’s dynamic and restless vision.
“As things evolve, we feel more blessed that we get to call this funny place home,” O’Sullivan told the Shawangunk Journal. “To me it was like a blank canvas. The nice thing with having such an endless project is that, over time, you can incorporate an infinite amount of inspirations into it, and create your own unique voice.”
