If you’re looking to recycle your Christmas tree after the holidays, do it the easy way at MulchFest 2017! On January 7th and 8th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the New York City Department of Sanitation and GreeNYC will be setting up their tree recycling stations at designated parks across the city! Simply bring your tree to one of the convenient locations, and have it transformed into mulch to be used at city parks or take some home for yourself.
MulchFest makes it easy to turn your tree into nutrient–rich mulch instead of hauling it to the curb to take up space in a landfill. The program also helps to ensure the trees and plants on New York City streets and in parks are nourished year-round, with fresh mulch.
Last year, over 30,000 Christmas trees were recycled at MulchFest, and GreeNYC hopes to top that number this year. Donors who bring their trees to chipping locations can also bring home their own bag of mulch for free. If you want to drop off your tree, you can choose a drop-off site near you, and bring it down from December 31 through January 8. The NYC Department of Sanitation will also be doing special curbside collections from January 3 through January 14, so check their website to see if your neighborhood is included.
