Florentijn Hofman’s giant buoyant yellow ducky made headlines as it sailed around the world last year, eventually coming to a sad demise in Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbor. Now, the 11-ton duck is back on the water and has finally docked in New York’s Oyster Bay, just in time for the the annual Oyster Festival.

Although few would be able to explain why the world really needs a large floating duck, Hofman’s art installation is incredibly popular and draws crowds wherever it goes. Although the installation has already graced Los Angeles with its presence, this is the large bath toy’s first visit to NYC.
Its New York debut this year coincided with the popular oyster festival, which took place along the Long Island waterfront. Hopefully, the duck will have a better New York experience than its Taiwan visit, where it split a seam and proceeded to burst in front of a disappointed crowd.
