The Little Sun Charge is the follow-up design to Eliasson and Ottesen’s successful Little Sun solar-powered LED lamp. The lamp was specifically created to provide sustainable light sources for some of the 1.1 billion people worldwide who live without electricity. Like Little Sun, the Little Sun Charge features a stylish sun motif, a built-in LED, and high-efficiency solar cells. The Charge also comes with an optional stand and will fully power a smartphone after just five hours in the sun—a big improvement over most conventional solar chargers that take between eight and 20 hours.

The Charge is perfect for travelers, freelancers, avid adventurers, and other off-grid applications; however, the solar charger will also benefit communities who live off-grid without any choice. Proceeds from the €50,000 Little Sun Charge Kickstarter will help support solar entrepreneurship in Africa and further Little Sun’s mission to bring sustainable energy to all.
“What is so great about solar technology is that it takes the sun – which is for all of us – and makes it available to each of us, no matter where in the world we are,” say the designers. “The sun nourishes, it connects and empowers. Using sunlight, Little Sun Charge directly connects us with each other through our mobile phones.” Want a Little Sun Charge of your own? Head over to the Kickstarter where you can grab a €55 early-bird special and help spread the solar technology to off-grid communities in Africa.
