Ryan Holmes, founder and CEO of Hootsuite, announced the launch of his new company, Oristand, which intends to democratize the stand up desk. Oristand offers completely functional stand up desks made of industrial-weight, recyclable cardboard at $25 USD – a fraction of the cost for your usual standing desk. Oristand is an ergonomically correct stand up desk that sits atop a traditional desk and can be put to use in under 10 seconds. It weighs less than two pounds and is strong enough to support any laptop-keyboard combination. Oristand collapses to less than one-inch wide when not in use and is easily stored, making it a portable, affordable alternative to a standard stand up desk. “I’ve personally found great benefits from having the flexibility to stand or sit while working, and don’t believe a stand up desk should be a luxury,” said Holmes. “Our intention with Oristand is to make it accessible to anyone wanting a flexible work station.”
