The Out of Hand collection includes revolutionary pieces by design and art masters such as Ron Arad, Barry X Ball, Zaha Hadid, Stephen Jones and Anish Kapoor that date back to the dawn of 3D technology just a decade ago. The cohesive exhibition shows how digital fabrication – from 3D printing to 3D scanning, CNC machining and digital knitting – have influenced artists and designers, and enabled them to change their way of thinking, opening a door for new opportunities and expression with their design.

Intricate sculptural artworks are complemented by 3D-printed fashions, including the first 3D-printed dress which was worn by burlesque performer Dita Von Teese. Replicated 3D-scanned objects accompany 3D-printed chairs, while active 3D printers set to work to show visitors their processes.

Along with the extensive collection, the Museum of Art and Design will also offer a bevy of educational programming, including a hands-on lab right within the exhibition itself. Children ages K-12 will be invited to introductory workshops, while adults can fine-tune their 3D printing and software skills, or attend an Intro to 3D Design class.
