The city of Long Beach, CA recently asked firms WE-designs and XP& Architecture to come up with a landmark project on a low budget to revitalize its downtown area. The result was this cluster of futuristic-looking buildings made from old shipping containers that have been truncated and stood up vertically. Called (RE)Configured Ecologies, the multi-use space has an open playground feel and comprises an education center, a café, retail space and 13 work/live loft spaces as well as an open roof terrace. We definitely think a project like this would revive Long Beach and would love to see it come to fruition!
