The hotel’s site, which was formerly a defunct gas station, is now a vibrant space in the downtown area with an engaging ground floor that draws in more than just hotel guests. Accordian-style glass doors open the hotel’s restaurant, SpoonBar!, up to the street level and art installations inside highlight original art from Bay Area artists. Spoonfall, an eco art installation by Ned Kahn, sits outside the restaurant and is made of a screen filled with espresso spoons and rainwater captured from the green roof powers the waterfall.

Behind the hotel Foss Creek, which was once overrun by development, is now making a comeback with the help of H2hotel and local activists. Solar panels on the roof of the hotel heat hot water for the pool and the hotels rooms, while sensors, energy saving elevators, louver shades and high performance windows further reduce energy usage. Guests are encouraged to take the cruiser bikes for a spin around town and try as many of the local and organic dishes from the restaurant as they can. Rooms are outfitted with bamboo flooring, organic linens, recycled materials and a low VOC environment.
