Yesterday was a big day for Tesla as it celebrated the arrival of its second major award with Motor Trend naming the Model S its 2013 Car of the Year. After receiving the award, Tesla CEO Elon Musk was interviewed by Motor Trend, in which he provided more details about Tesla’s future, which may include a pickup truck.

Tesla has already unveiled its next model the Model X crossover and after the crossover arrives Tesla will introduce a new smaller sedan that will go head to head with the BMW 3 Series.

This is the first time that we’re hearing about a Tesla pickup truck, and Musk’s suggestion confirms that Tesla is intent on becoming a full-line automaker. Elon Musk didn’t provide any other details about the possible pickup truck and it remains to be seen if Tesla can succeed in building an electric pickup in the highly competitive truck segment. Given the success of the Model S sedan a Tesla pickup could be a game changer in the segment.
