With all the news surrounding the Tesla Model S and the upcoming Model X, it’s been easy to forget about Tesla’s first model, the Roadster. While a new Roadster has not been announced, Tesla is reportedly going to offer current owners a nice upgrade later this year with a new battery that will give the electric car a 400-mile driving range.

Currently the Tesla Roadster has a 245 mile driving range, which is just a bit short for a non-stop trip between Los Angeles and San Francisco, but Tesla CEO Elon Musk has revealed that an upgraded battery is going to arrive sometime this year. “The Roadster had an old generation battery,” Musk recently told Auto Express.” We’ll upgrade it to a new generation battery pack and it should have a range of about 400 miles, which will allow you to drive from LA to San Francisco non-stop.” Tesla hasn’t announced any specific details about the battery pack or how much it will cost.
