Designer Sarah Peasegives the humble mason jar a high-tech makeover with the “audioJar”. Using the glass container as a housing for open-source speakers, the audioJar takes readily available household items and grants them a second life as an audio system. Jar sizes can be mixed and matched with different cork feet, resulting in a simple, modernist twist to the DIY aesthetic
Currently a student at the Rhode Island School of Design, Pease created the speakers with the help of David A. Mellis’ open source instructions for Fab Speakers. Constructed out of glass, fabric, and electronic elements, the audioJar runs on AAA batteries, and is compatible with any standard audio jack. The clean, no-frills construction earned Pease a Core77 2012 DIY Notable distinction.
