- 100% design lead<a href="https://inhabitat.com/tag/100-design-london" target="_blank">100% Design</a> returned to the <a href="https://inhabitat.com/london-design-week/" target="_blank">2014 London Design Festival</a> with an amazing showcase, befitting the event's 20th anniversary this year. Officially recognized as the United Kingdom's biggest and longest running contemporary design show, this year's 100% Design was housed in Kaleidoscope, an exhibition space that comprised six sections: International Pavilions, Emerging Brands, Interiors, Office, Kitchen & Bathrooms, and Eco Design & Build. - bentu-concrete-furniture<a href="http://www.bentudesign.com/" target="_blank">Bentu's</a> recycles construction waste into furniture and accessories.2
- ooobject-peanut-shell-vase<a href="http://www.ooobject.com/" target="_blank">ooobject</a> also creates functional objects from recycled materials. This Tusk vase system is made from discarded peanut shells and biodegradable thermoplastic.3
- ooobject-citrus-strainerooobject's Citrus juicer contains 37% recycled glass powder, incorporated in a bio-degradable compound.4
- laokoon-textile-art-detailIn the Emerging Brands area, <a href="http://www.laokoon-co.com/" target="_blank">Laokoon's</a> aquatic-looking hanging sculpture made a striking display. Made from flexible sheets of stitched together columns of polyprolyene scales, the material is filled with movement. At 100% Design, Laokoon also showed off their Enso Lamp, which pairs the material with an LED-powered body.5
- DAM-Dina-cork-chairInspired by Porto's famous wine, <a href="http://www.dam.pt/" target="_blank">DAM's</a> lightweight Dora chair is made from solid ash with a composite black cork seat. Since black cork is naturally dark, the renewable material does not require any additional color additives.6
- atlantic-leather-fish-leather<a href="http://www.atlanticleather.is/index.php/en/" target="_blank">Atlantic Leather</a> is a type of environmentally friendly fish leather produced at an Icelandic tannery. A by-product of the fisheries industry, the upcycled material is made from renewable hydro and geothermal energy sources. The leather is produced from the skins of four species of fish: perch, salmon, wolf fish and cod.7
- erik-klarenbeek-3D-printing-mushrooms<a href="http://ericklarenbeek.com/" target="_blank">Eric Klarenbeek's</a> material samples are 3D printed from living organisms, such as mycelium, and combined with local raw materials. The fully compostable creations have a negative carbon footprint.8
- spyros-kizis-artichoke-thistles-bio-resin<a href="www.spyroskizis.com" target="_blank">Spyros Kizis</a> created cast bricks made from artichoke thistles and bio-resin from waste cooking oil. The artichoke head is combined with epoxy resin and then cast in a mold to achieve the desired shape.9
- baux-wood-wool-cement-panelsThe acoustic and thermal panels from Sweden's <a href="www.baux.se" target="_blank">Baux</a> are made of wood, wool and cement, natural components that are both environmentally friendly and recyclable.10
- meital-tzabari-pressed-leaves<a href="www.meitaltzabari.com" target="_blank">Meital Tzabari</a> designed beautiful panels made from pressed fallen leaves.11
- marlene-huissound-materials<a href="http://www.marlene-huissoud.com/" target="_blank">Marlene Huissound</a> uses insects and their waste streams as raw materials to make creations such as wooden leather and silkworm cocoons combined with biodegradable resin.12
- solidwool-samples<a href="www.solidwool.com" target="_blank">Solidwool</a> collects wool from sheep farmed in the upland areas of the UK to create a beautiful and tough composite material. Low carbon footprint bio resins are used in the production process to make Solidwool a sustainable alternative to fibreglass.13
- paperfoam-biobased-packagingNetherlands-based <a href="www.paperfoam.nl" target="_blank">Paperfoam</a> designs biobased packaging that is 100% biodegradable and very light, ideal for packing electronics, cosmetics, medical equipment and dry food. Produced with Paperfoam's patented injection molding technology, the ingredients are industrial starch, natural fibers, water and a premix.14
- polluted-patternDesigned by Alessia Giardino in collaboration with <a href="www.italcementigroup.com" target="_blank">Italcementi</a>, Polluted Pattern is created from a photocatalytic cement called i.active cement, patented by Italementi. The innovative cement contains TiO2 that when exposed to light, can purify air by breaking down air-borne pollutants.15
