This solar-powered self-driving boat is making a historic journey across the Atlantic Ocean

Engineers Isaac Penny and Christopher Sam Soon built a self-driving solar-powered boat from scratch.

On June 1 they launched the Solar Voyager from Boston.

Solar panels power the craft.

If all goes according to plan, the Solar Voyager should land in Portugal in October.

The boat is made from aluminum, which the engineers decided would be more resilient than the “glass reinforced plastic” used by other autonomous boats.
