Space-conscious high-rise dwellers will love this kinetic Bloomframe window, which transforms into an open air balcony with the touch of a button. The designers at HofmanDujardin and manufacturers at Kawneer have been working on the project for years, and now the innovative façade may appear soon on luxury residences near and far.
The Bloomframe technology has been in the works for years now. The architects caused quite a stir in 2008 when they released a video rendering of the project and, later that year, a functional prototype at the “Batimat” exhibition in Paris. The model featured an opaque floor, yet the freshly released video shows two panels of glass which fold out into the air.
Creating a product that is both safe and sleek has proved to be a challenge, yet developments continue to be made so the Bloomframe façade can be incorporated into construction in the coming years. High-end residences will likely feature the window-balcony combination first, yet perhaps the trend will take off to become a part of every neighborhood.
