A small boutique hotel in Laguna Beach, California has received a sustainable upgrade courtesy of Horst Architects - including a two-story green wall that lends an "eco-urban" vibe to the place. The renovated SevenFourOne hotel is reserved for group accommodation, and it's also a popular place for photo shoots, fashion shows, weddings and other exclusive events.
The owners of Hotel SevenFourOne commissioned Horst to renovate and remodel the hotel in a way that would reflect their overarching commitment to sustainability and Orange County’s cottage vernacular. In addition to the gorgeous vertical garden, which not only freshens up the exterior and interior but actually helps to control the microclimate, the facade features eco-friendly materials as well.
The facade is clad in wood salvaged from old buildings in East LA, which – combined with the Corten steel framing – gives the 12 room hotel an earthy, weathered look and feel. This is a fantastic upgrade that reaches new modern heights without compromising the culture of Laguna Beach.
