Working on the site of a natural reserve in Australia has both its benefits and challenges, which Giovanni D’Ambrosio approached with an unparalleled finesse. Fitting in with Mount Hotham's country and cowboy vernacular, Under the Moonlight was constructed with a beautiful palette of glass, stone and wood - materials that match the surrounding landscape.

Especially concerned to have the smallest environmental impact possible, the design team ensured that most of the site’s existing vegetation was left untouched. The double story home has a gorgeous stone base and a triangular crown that lends an almost futuristic aspect to the entire program.
All of the framed views of the exterior are glazed, ensuring plenty of natural light throughout the year. And a very well insulated steel roof traps any thermal loss. Most of the public functions are designed for the first floor while the upper story is devoted to private rooms. Both respectful of its historical and natural context and delightfully fresh, Under the Moonlight is an enviable place to call home.
