Southern India is getting a brand new LEED-Gold certified residential township. With the rapid influx of new urbanites bursting current city borders, urban planners and municipalities are taking growth beyond city limits with V I D A Architects at the helm. By starting over in new territory, it becomes possible to manage the next generation of developments to ensure their long-term sustainability.
The new township will aim for LEED Gold certification.
It will cover 100 acres and house 40,000 residents.
The exact location has not been disclosed, but this project will be built in southern India.
By moving new developments outside of existing urban areas, planners and municipalities gain control again.
In so doing, they can ensure the project's long-term sustainability.
As part of its LEED ambitions, the project will have plenty of green urban space.
And landscaping that reduces stormwater runoff will be planted to keep the waterways clean.
V I D A is expected to see the project through to completion, which is slated for 2013.
