The Dwell Homes Collection is a partnership between Turkel Design, who designs the homes and Lindal Cedar Homes, who assembles the materials and delivers them to the site of the home. Like all Lindal Cedar homes, the houses are designed with energy efficiency in mind, all the parts and pieces for the home are delivered in a kit to minimize shipping, and then they are built on-location by a local contractor. For the Dwell Homes Collection, Turkel Design walks the client through the entire design process to come up with perfect home for their lives, family and location.

The contemporary homes combine modern design with a warm and approachable look. Exposed beams, wood accents, and lots of natural daylight set these homes apart from other prefab homes. Turkel Design has prepared nine different pre-designed homes from 1,700 sq ft up to almost 3,000 sq ft that can be bought off the shelf as-is. Each home was designed with a specific family in mind in various types of building locations – smaller two bedroom retirement homes, family homes for urban infill lots, vacation homes, and homes that can even fit in with the most traditional of neighborhoods.

As more home buyers are looking for smaller homes that do more with less square footage, Joel Turkel and his team have focused a lot of effort on making the homes more dense while including a lot of functionality. To achieve homes with reduced square footage, volume and surface area, Turkel worked to minimize circulation areas and make rooms multi-functional and transformative for those few occasions a year when you need space to entertain. Studies and offices do double duty as guest rooms, lofts that serve as extra living rooms transform into sleeping spaces, and living and dining areas can accommodate for entertaining.

There are three ways to go about working with Turkel Design and Lindal Cedar Homes to get a modern and green home. First, you can choose a pre-designed home straight from their catalog; second, you could work with Turkel Design to modify one of the pre-designed homes to fit your site and needs; or third you can get a completely customized design from Turkel Design with the same look and feel as the Dwell Homes Collection, but that completely meets all your needs. After the design is finalized, the plans are sent to Lindal Cedar Homes who prepares the materials for your house and ships them off to the location.

Like all Lindal Cedar Homes, green building plays a big part in the design and construction of each home. All the homes are completely adaptable to a wide range of sustainable strategies, like renewable energy, LEED certification, rainwater collection and eco-friendly materials. By working closely with Turkel Design, home buyers can customize the eco features they want in their house. Lindal has been working closely with the National Association of Home Builders on their green building standards and they were the first systems builder approved by the NAHB.

Currently, there are seven homes in North America that have been completed or are in construction, and 32 homes are in various stages of design. There’s even one home being designed for South Korea and another home aiming for LEED for Homes certification. Costs for a Turkel/Lindal home vary depending on your location, site, extras and local builder, but the homes cost around $225-350 per sq ft.
