Paul Archer Design has given green housing a high-tech touch with his new zero carbon Green Orchard home in the UK. Located in the "green belt" of southern Gloucestershire, this 200 square meter single family dwelling boasts all kinds of clean technology to ensure the smallest possible carbon and water footprint, including a highly-insulated envelope that features operable wall panels.
Sustainable design has taken off in so many exciting directions and Paul Archer Design showcases the latest: Green Orchard features a super-insulated envelope of operable, full-height panels that allow the inhabitants to control how much light and solar heat permeates the interior. Clad in aluminum, the facade helps the home mesh with the surrounding natural environment.
Great lengths were taken to minimize the home’s energy consumption. Topped with thermal solar panels that heat 80 percent of the home’s water, as well as rooftop photovoltaics that provide year-round energy, Green Orchard is heated with nothing more than a Stuv wood-burning stove. Fresh and bright, the minimalist interior decor also reflects a modern, but sensitive attitude towards living the good green life.
