Of Pixel Building’s carbon neutral status, Daniel Grollo, Grocon development company’s CEO said, “Any carbon emissions used in the building’s ongoing operation will be offset by renewable energy [8] from large photovoltaic panels on the roof, as well as wind turbines.” Grocon [9] is also planning to offset all of the carbon generated in manufacturing and installing construction materials over time.
In addition to the PV panels [10], wind turbines, and carbon offsetting, the Pixel Building will feature an ozone-free absorption heat pump chiller, a grass roof covering, and a reed-bed system to filter grey water and shade the windows. Workstations within the office will be individually controlled to circulate fresh air through a raised roof, and concrete ceiling slabs will provide radiant cooling, rounding out the structure’s impressive array of green building innovations.
