Pixel Building<br> This crazy contraption is slated to be Australia's very first carbon neutral office building! Located at the former site of the Carlton Brewery, the <a href="http://www.pixelbuilding.com.au/">Pixel Building</a> features a very distinctive pixelated facade and is set to begin construction later this year. Designed by <a href="http://www.studio505.com.au/">Studio 505 Architects</a>, the $6 million, four-floor building will generate more energy than it consumes and will feature other green features that will make it stand out beyond its eye-catching looks.1
Pixel BuildingOf Pixel Building's carbon neutral status, Daniel Grollo, Grocon development company's CEO said, “Any carbon emissions used in the building’s ongoing operation will be offset by <a href="http://www.inhabitat.com/energy">renewable energy</a> from large photovoltaic panels on the roof, as well as wind turbines."2
Pixel Building<a href="http://www.grocon.com.au/">Grocon</a> is also planning to offset all of the carbon generated in manufacturing and installing construction materials over time.3
Pixel BuildingThe building will also have a grass roof covering and a reed-bed system to filter grey water and shade the windows.4
Pixel BuildingIn addition to the <a href="http://www.inhabitat.com/solar-power">PV panels</a>, wind turbines and carbon offsetting the building will have an ozone-free absorption heat pump chiller.5
Pixel BuildingThe design also includes individually controlled workstations to circulate fresh air through a raised roof and concrete ceiling. slabs to provide radiant cooling6
