Designed by Candid Rogers as a retreat for thoughtful repose, the tiny home embraces the site and the surrounding landscape. The bottom floor holds an open kitchen/dining area backed by a bathroom. A tight staircase leads up to the bedroom, which cantilevers out over the bottom floor, providing shade for the lower level.
The upstairs features a huge picture window that looks out over the surrounding area, framing the desert landscape. The bottom two windows of the four are glazed for privacy and help reduce solar heat gain. Behind the house is a large shaded patio that extends the living space far beyond the home’s modest 320 square feet. Two flap doors open up from the kitchen/dining area to create a connected space. The exterior is clad in cor-ten steel that will age and patina with time. The Marfa 10 x 10 Lightbox won the AIA San Antonio Design Award, 2007 and the AIA National Small Projects Award, 2008.
