Gallery: +31 Architects’ Modern ...

When approaching +31 Architects for the design, the sought to avoid creating a standard “caravan” appearance for their new home.

The floating house features an open floor plan that maximizes outdoor space and provides expansive views of the water. The living area and open kitchen are located at the water level, and cabins are located in the lower decks. The floor-to-ceiling windows afford the inhabitants a panoramic view of the Amstel.

The circulation of the interior is simple and straightforward – it consists of a living area, kitchen, and a bedroom split between two levels. The split level makes it possible to create a terrace on the south side without exceeding the maximum building height of three meters.

The architects chose to utilize aluminum to accentuate the round lines of the facade, and the white plastered walls and ceilings follow the curve of the building to create a seamless transition from the interior to the exterior.

While the Watervilla de Omval certainly exhibits a modern aesthetic, +31 Architects was careful to reflect the low-slung and elongated profile featured in other houseboats found along the river. Not surprisingly, the clients have received a positive response from neighbors and onlookers alike.

Awesome houseboat! It would be nice to know the size, cost, and if available to buy.
